Zohran Kwame Mamdani is an American politician who has served as the 112th mayor of New York City since January 2026. Born in Kampala, Uganda, to filmmaker Mira Nair and academic Mahmood Mamdani, he moved to the United States for his education, graduating from Bowdoin College in 2014. A member of the Working Families Party, Mamdani previously served in the New York State Assembly. His mayoral platform focuses on affordability, including free childcare and improved public transit. He is known for his active social media presence and engagement with constituents. Mamdani is married to Rama Duwaji.
